(Yoo-hoo! Brian!...Brian Williams!) More Reasons for Westerners to Expect Escalated Jihad [Mrs. R.]

[John]

Red flags? What red flags? I don't see any red flags...

In just 24 hours, the world has witnessed three very high-profile and failed terrorist attacks on British soil.

Not thwarted attacks, but attacks that failed due to sheer incompetence.

Not exactly the image Irani President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad wants to project to the world.

What common sense and past experience indicates: The Lords of Jihad (unlike many of Western leaders) will not go all wobbly, or be plagued with self-doubt as a result of their recent failures. If anything, these embarrassments will only serve to strengthen their resolve, making them even more determined to score a series of direct hits. The bigger the better. Their reputation depends on it, as does their reign of terror/power.

So, no sighs of relief or smug dismissals just yet, Mr. Williams, OK?

Those Guys at Blog-Rating Can Suck It!

[John]

This can't be right:

Somebody must have f**cked screwed goofed up.

UPDATE: Oh, now I understand.

This rating was determined based on the presence of the following words:

* hell (4x)
* bastard (3x)
* crap (2x)
* torture (1x)

See, the problem is that someone used the word torture. And crap. Hey, don't look at me.

Policy Failures in the Middle East: The Price We All Pay [Mrs. R.]

[John]

Speaking of which, remember Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt's plan to broker peace between Arabs and Israelis back in 2003?

"The past few years of conflict mean that yet another generation of Israelis and Palestinians will grow up in hatred. We cannot allow that to happen."

Finally, someone who got it.

Pitt and Aniston believe that most people in the region want a negotiated settlement with an end to violence, and imagine that by appealing directly to "ordinary folk", they can bring the warring parties together.

So what the heck happened? It's been almost four years now and Arab-Israeli hostilities teeter on the brink of all-out war.

Oh, that's right... Brad Pitt couldn't keep it in his pants.

UN Peacekeepers Fair Game, al Qaeda's Benchmarks, Iran's Newfound Confidence...[Mrs. R.]

Yoo-hoo! Brian!...Brian Williams!

Killing of UN peacekeepers signals new phase in GWT
Car bomb kills 6 U.N. soldiers in south Lebanon
Reuters, Canada

It was the first deadly attack on the 13,000-strong United Nations force since last year's Israel-Hezbollah war and drew swift condemnation from the United States, France and others.

Mubarak's criticisms of Hamas sparks new al Qaeda threat
Militant calls for attacks on targets in Egypt
Reuters, India

A man described as a leader of al Qaeda's wing in Egypt called for attacks on Israeli and Western targets in the Arab world's most populous country in support of the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas.

The deputy leader of al Qaeda, Egyptian Islamist Ayman al-Zawahri, named Hakaima last year as one of a group of Gama'a members who had joined force with al Qaeda.

WSJ commentary posits threat of global conflict
Winds of War
Wall Street Journal

Several conflicts of various intensities are raging in the Middle East. But a bigger war, involving more states -- Israel, Lebanon, Syria, Iran, the Palestinian Authority and perhaps the United States and others -- is growing more likely every day, beckoned by the sense that America and Israel are in retreat and that radical Islam is ascending.

Consider the pell-mell events of recent weeks...

‘Zero chance’of US attack: Iran
Daily Times, Pakistan

A top Iranian security official said on Saturday that there was “zero chance” of a US attack on Iran to thwart its nuclear ambitions, the state IRNA news agency reported.

“There is about zero possibility of a US military attack on Iran,” deputy interior minister Mohammad Baqer Zolghadr said.

(After dismissing the threat of an Israeli attack, Zolghadr continues...)

"America’s arrogant power is the only foreign threat against Iran’s national security but Iran’s resistance and capability has neutralised all US strategies for a regime change or behaviour change in Iran.”

The coagulation process continues...
Aussie Muslims unite against Israel

Australia's Sunni and Shia Muslims have formed a united front against Israel and declared their support for the Iranian-backed terrorist network Hezbollah.

The only thing that matters is global jihad
Al-Zawahri: Muslims should support Hamas
Yahoo! News (H/T Hot Air)

Al-Zawahri urged Hamas to implement Islamic law in Gaza, telling it, "Taking over power is not a goal but a means to implement God's word on earth."

This echoes the sentiments of Abu Omar, a militant Islamist and the "charismatic" leader of the Palestinian Ain Al Hilwe Refugee camp in Lebanon, as expressed in this June 19th International Herald Tribune article:

"Victory is not required from us, what is required is to be ready for a jihad in the name of God, ready to reinstate Islam's rule and Muslim caliphate."

Any other bloggers interested in Red Flag posting?

Just insert a red flag graphic in posts that address news and events that indicate the increased risk of Worldwide Jihad in the not-so-distant future. Typically, these stories are woefully underreported or downplayed by Brian Williams - and, in some cases, totally ignored.

Who knows? If enough red flags pop up on this side of the blogosphere, maybe...eventually...Brian Williams will hear about it. Surely he can find a way to alert the public of the world-changing events taking place AND blame it on the Bush administration.

In Case This Doesn't Make the Front Page of Tomorrow's Papers, U.S. & Iraqi Forces Take a Nice-Sized Chunk Out of al Qaeda [Mrs. R.]

[John]

Today in Baquba, US and Iraqi forces killed 55 al Qaeda militants in Operation Arrowhead Ripper. US air strikes killed 7 al Qaeda fighters in Tikrit.

That's in addition to 28 militants killed in Diyala province north of Baghdad over the last several days.

The surge is producing results? Someone get Eleanor Clift a hankie.

For firsthand reports on Operation Arrowhead Ripper, visit Photojournalist Michael Yon's Online Magazine.

If you do see anything in tomorrow's paper on this US/Iraqi offensive, don't expect much.

Prior to this news being released, New York Times dings Operation Arrowhead Ripper in today's paper, so does the Washington Post.

What's It Gonna Take to Reverse Global Warming? 6½ Minutes of Nonstop BS Action [Mrs. R.]

[John]

And this chick knows her stuff.

"How many light bulbs does it take to change the world? Just one. The one you install in your own home, and the one after that, until you've retrofitted your whole house."

You mean, light bulbs like this one that are so difficult to recycle due to the hazardous material they contain (mercury) that most consumers just toss them in with the regular trash, which is subsequently tossed into landfills?

"The information is out there. Use the web. Find out what it is you care about and live a life that shows it, as Kate Wolf said. "

Wow, I didn't know eco-warriors could pick and choose their missions. That's way better than being in the Marines.

By the way, should I go to 'findoutwhatitisyoucareabout.com', or 'findoutwhatitisicareabout.com'?

"I was speaking at the United Nations a couple of days ago, and I looked up and there were incandescent light bulbs and I said,'C'mon, people, we can do better than this'!"

You mean, by replacing the incandescent light bulbs currently used at the UN with light bulbs that contain a potent neurotoxin?

Hmm.

"If you want to know what you can do to make a difference, here's your homework: Go on the web. . Calculate the carbon intensity of your car...

"There's a little calculator there that'll tell you how much carbon your car is emitting. Pay the equivalent of a couple of fill-ups of gasoline and your car will be carbon-neutral for a year..."

Because nothing solves tough problems quicker than handing liberals a big ol' pile of cash.

Brian Williams Is No Paul Revere; and, Boy, Could We Sure Use One [Mrs. R.]

[John]

Red flags? What red flags? I don't see any red flags...

I haven't the foggiest idea of what you're talking about.

Now, if you don't mind, I'd like to continue with my latest report on New Orleans...

The "Forest of Red Flags That Western Journalists Can't See Because of all the Red Flags" Quiz:

1. You don't have to be:

  1. A network news anchor to recognize the sound of sabers rattling.

  2. A member of the Senate Intelligence Committee to interpret the beat of distant drums.

  3. A military expert to notice the foreboding configuration of red flags currently encircling Israel.

  4. All of the above.

2. In order to better understand the accelerated mobilization of Islamic militants in the Middle East, Northern Africa, Southeast Asia, and various other regions of the world over the last 10-12 months, and what it all means, all you need is:

  1. A subscription to the New York Times, or Newsweek.

  2. A daily dose of Hardball with Chris Matthews, or Countdown with Keith Olbermann.

  3. A healthy belief in coincidence.

  4. Primal instinct.

3. In addition to primal instinct, what other traits do most Western journalists appear to be devoid of?
  1. A nose for news.

  2. Common sense.

  3. A desire to serve the public by keeping it well-informed on matters of great import.

  4. All of the above.

True or False?

4. Instead of scaring little kids with sketchy details of the apocalyptic future envisioned by Prophets of Global Warming, Western journalists should be alerting the children's parents to the real-time apocalyptic dangers associated with Worldwide Jihad (already in progress).

5. Despite the mind-blowing advancements in communications and information-gathering technologies since the 18th century, Paul Revere did a much better job of alerting fellow citizens to impending danger than journalists working at ABC, NBC, CBS, the Washington Post, or the New York Times.

6. Whether or not the Drums of Jihad will beat louder in the weeks and months to come, current volume levels could wake the dead - yet, fail to rouse those fast asleep at their anchor desks.

7. If you answered 'd' to the questions 1-3, and 'true' to questions 4-7, you've lost all faith in the mainstream press, and fear that its determination to serve political interests rather than the public interest could, once again, have devastating consequences.

The "We Are Mysterious Creatures, Aren't We?" Quiz [Mrs. R.]

[John]

  1. Yes, I guess we are. In fact, we are such mysterious creatures that I never even realized it until you brought it up. I feel like such a dumb-ass.

  2. If by "mysterious creatures" you mean reasons to avoid movie theaters this summer, yes.

  3. N-o-o-o-o-o-o-o. Heart-shaped jellyfish are mysterious creatures.

  4. The pampered, privileged she-creatures of leisure portrayed in this film, who giggle/agonize their days away (while still managing to keep a sizable staff of servants hopping) may be many things, but mysterious is not one of them.

  5. You know what they say. If you have to ask...

  6. There wasn't a better line to feature in the trailer than this one?

Answer: Not 'a'

Free Michael Moore!

[John]

No, Michael Moore is not in jail, just wanted to let all the progressives out the know that they can watch Moore's new blockbuster Sicko, free!

That's right, no need to spend you hard-earned money making corporate fat-cats like Harvey Weinstein even richer - just go to www.piratebay.org (or any of the other progressive film distribution outlets) and download Sicko absolutely free.

And if you're worried about Moore, don't. He's all for it, at least according to what he said in 2004 about Farencrap 9/11 being distributed via the web:

"I don't agree with the copyright laws and I don't have a problem with people downloading the movie and sharing it with people as long as they're not trying to make a profit off my labour. I would oppose that," he said. "I do well enough already and I made this film because I want the world, to change. The more people who see it the better, so I'm happy this is happening."

So, if you really like Michael Moore, you won't pay to see Sicko (or any of his other films, for that matter), which you can download for free at sites like Piratebay.org.

Micheal_moore
"Whatever you do, please don't pay to see my movies."

BTW, here's my favorite comment from this thread at piratebay.org, left by Canadian commenter "tianton", who rips "yanks" for being "f**ked" and "[in] denial" because we're more concerned about Paris Hilton then we are health care (emphasis mine):

My comment was more of a rant to all the ignorant and idiotic comments posted about this movie. By the way i have not seen this movie as of yet but am looking forward to it.

Hey, you can't make this stuff up.

Crafting Immigration Policy North of the Squalor [Mrs. R.]

[John]

Knock. Knock.

Who's there?

Guess.

Guess who?

Guess who's really to blame for the massive influx of immigrants entering this country illegally?

The illegal immigrants?

No.

The American businesses and households that employ them?

No.

Senators like me, who call guys like you bigots?

No.

Um, guys like you who voted for guys like me?

Well, yeah, we shoulder a lot of the responsibility...

But who are the real culprits?

...

Ah, c'mon...

Sorry...I'm drawing a total blank.

True or False?

1. Despite its vast wealth of resources, like oil and natural gas, the Mexican government refuses to provide a large portion of its population a basic education, decent living conditions, standard medical care, business and employment opportunities.

2. For every immigrant who seeks a better life north of the squalor, there are at least two who, for whatever reason, remain in Mexico.

3. If supporters of the Kennedy-McCain immigration bill really cared about the plight of illegal immigrants, they would be more concerned with the conditions that these immigrants were fleeing from, and with those who still live under such conditions.

4. Instead of holding demonstrations in cities across this country, making demands of U.S. officials, pro-illegal immigration activists should be leading protests in Mexico City, making demands of Mexican officials.

5. The only way to effectively resolve a problem is to address the actual source of the problem.

6. If the US was blessed with the kind of leadership needed to tackle tough problems, our president and members of Congress would be exerting more, not less, pressure on the Mexican government to care and provide for its own citizens.

7. Countries and governments who deprive their citizens basic education, decent living conditions, standard medical care, business and employment opportunities are perfect places for terrorists to set up shop.

8. If a country like the United States cannot find some way to negotiate a resolution to this problem with Mexican officials, there are more problems brewing south of the border than leaders in this country care to acknowledge or address.

If you answered "True" to any of the above questions, shame on you! Your views are not representative of the president, those running for president, or members of Congress.

Yes, As a Matter of Fact, I Am a Lazy Bastard

[John]

Thanks for noticing that.

I know, I know - no posts. Sorry, just busy with...stuff? Yeah, stuff. Not bad stuff - everything's fine, I just don't really have time to blog right now.

Wait, I guess that can't be true because I'm blogging right now. Anyway, you know how long stuff can take. OK, maybe you don't. If you do, fine, if not, just take my word for it.

I would put up one of those "I won't be posting very much for a while" posts, but I've had to go back on those before, so just know that it might be a while. Besides, my lovely wife might find time to post something, so I really have no freaking idea what's happening with this blog.

Open_24hrs
Not in a row!

Tell you what - you don't need to check back here, I'll just e-mail you if I post anything. No, scratch that - I'd have to send out twenty or thirty e-mails, and I'm too lazy for that - you know, the whole 'lazy bastard' thing.

You know what - just forget I said anything.

UPDATE: Reprinting my e-mails without my permission? That's what you call fun?

Practice Your Religion at Work, Win $287,640! [Mrs. R.]

[John]

From KVOA, Tucson: Alamo Rent A Car must pay Muslim woman for banning scarf

PHOENIX -- A federal jury has ordered Alamo Rent A Car to pay a Muslim woman $287,640 for firing her because she refused to remove a head scarf she was wearing during the holy month of Ramadan.

I didn't know it was okay for folks to wear their religion to work.

U.S. District Court Judge Roslyn O. Silver ruled last year that the government had proven religious discrimination and Alamo had shown no proof that it had taken reasonable steps to allow Nur to follow her beliefs before firing her.

Clearly, the defendant in this case, a 22-year-old Muslim woman from Somalia, "who fled the war-ravaged country and came to the US in 1998" knows a helluva lot more about constitutional law than I, or the attorneys for Alamo, or the Supreme Court Justices who routinely uphold (or refuse to review) rulings that limit religious expression outside of the home or place of worship.

I think most Americans are under the impression that any overt expression of one's religious beliefs in the workplace (which may make coworkers, business associates, and/or customers feel put-upon or uncomfortable) could be considered grounds for termination.

Not according to Mary Jo O'Neill, an attorney with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission...

Alamo continued to deny it had violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act during the nearly six years since the case was filed, and the judge's ruling and Friday's jury award showed they were wrong.

"Title VII protects people of all religious beliefs," O'Neill said. "No one should have to sacrifice their religious beliefs in order to keep a job."

So a Christian man can wear a crown of thorns to work on Good Friday without fear of reprimand or termination? And, if he is fired as a result, he could win a quarter of a million dollars in punitive damages?

No? Why not?

I see...

UDATE: In a loosley-related story:

On Friday, a group that emerged this year, the Righteous Swords of Islam, threatened to "slit the throats" of women presenters on Palestine Television if they do not cover their hair..."
